Is this happening?
Can someone pinch me? Is this actually happening? A NieR concert? Coming to London?!
There are so many choice words that I would use to describe how excited I am for this situation but I think the vast majority of them would get me in trouble, so let me take a moment to calm down, gather my thoughts and then I’ll carry on.
*One entire replay of NieR: Automata later*
Okay, I’m back! Is this still relevant? Good! Let’s get moving!
The event is going to be a collaboration between Square-Enix and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra & The Chamber Choir of London alongside the GRAMMY Award-winner and distinguished conductor Arnie Roth and the vocal stylings of renowned soloist, Emi Evans! The composer of the soundrack for the series, Keiichi Okabe as well as legendary director Yoko Taro will be in attendance and have produced a HD gameplay video to accompany the raw sonic power of the musicians to deliever an all-encompassing experience to fully immerse fans in the world of NieR!
If you’re a fan of the series and reading that above paragraph hasn’t gotten you excited to the point that you’re drooling from the mouth (is that just me?), then I really don’t know what to tell you.
Aside from maybe going to replay the entire series again. Yeah, go do that.
If you’re really trying to flex on everyone and be the envy of all of your friends, as well as the entire NieR fanbase, there are also a limited amount of VIP tickets available which grant you premium seating for the event.
But wait, there’s more!
Paying the extra £83 will also grant you the opportunity to meet the minds behind both the concert and the series – Keiichi Okabe, Yoko Taro, Emi Evans and Arnie Roth will all be available for a meet and greet, you’ll be able to have one item autographed and you’ll be able to have one photo with all of the aforementioned! £83 is a steep price to pay, but that’s also a decent amount of extras that you get as a result.
Whether you think it’s worth it is up to you.
To get back to fanboying for a second, NieR: Automata was my personal game of the year in 2017 and is one of my favourite games of all time. The unique method of storytelling with the numerous amount of endings, the characters, the gameplay and of course, the soundtrack. Oh me, oh my the soundtrack. If for whatever reason, you’re reading this article and haven’t played NieR: Automata, I have two suggestions for you.
One, stop everything you’re doing, buy a copy of the game and go and play. Simple as that. Two, arguably the more reasonable one, listen to this curated selection of three tracks from the NieR: Automata OST as a means of convincing you to follow my first suggestion (obviously, don’t read the comments because of spoilers.)
It was tough to limit myself to choosing just three and these aren’t even necessarily my three top tracks! These are just the ones which I believe showcase the uniqueness of the NieR: Automata OST.
Even as I continue writing this article whilst listening to the OST, my mind is whisked away to the wonderous, amazing but also harrowing scenes depicted within the world of NieR: Automata. It truly is a masterpiece and I’m excited that a live experience of said masterpiece is coming to London.
Tickets for the NieR: Orchestra Concert went live on the 9th October at 10am GMT for the general public…and almost immediately sold out! In quick response though, and to the relief of many a fan, Square Enix announced a second London show taking place after the first one! Sadly, it also seems like those tickets sold out really quickly but with plenty of time until the event itself, here’s hoping that another opportunity will be made available,
Make sure to be following the official NieR Game accounts on both Facebook and Twitter to know if more batches of tickets are made available!
If you’re at all interested in attending, you can find out more on the official website and buy them here.
